you sure so good afternoon everyone good afternoon to all of our new incoming kindergarten parents and some of you are not new to 194 you are you I'm sure you have other children that are already attending 194 for what welcome and thank you for adding more to our school family we're anxious children come September but we wanted to give you some highlights of what's to come this coming school year next slide so before we begin with the orientation just wanted some some rules for today's orientation there will definitely be a time at the end of orientation where you're going to have questions for us but the first thing right now we've made sure that the your mics are muted so please do not unmute them so we could go through the or annotation and then at the end we will answer your questions using the chat box okay so if you do not have a pen or paper to take notes I'll give you a couple of seconds to go get that so you could just drop a few questions. as we go through the orientation and the next slide the first the first person you see there on the left side that is my me time principal I've been principal here since 2010 practically practically been here for 15 years I've been here since 2006 and it's 15 years later and this is my my second home and your children are my children as well lady next to me is the assistant principal missed all these the assistant principal for a kindergarten first second and third grade students next young woman right there is list Aral Sea is our assistant principal for 4th 5th 6th 7th and 8th grade and the final young lady right there is no Santa Claus she's assistant principal 88 for our special ed and Ariane else too and you see some names under us that will be teaching your children and I will be Miss Carol and sauce 12 Miss alkhouri Miss Maharaj is Cortez destroy Mezmur Corelli is varghese the Foley Miss McNeil desantiago mr. Brady Miss housing fraud Miss Whitney this pizzelle and is greater than the song Flores is our parents Terminator I'm sure you know her she's been sending out emails almost every single day since the start of the school year just to make sure that our parents are in touch and know everything that's happening throughout the school year in the next life and I'm going to hand this over to our system principal missed all thank you McDowell we can't hear you you're a mute okay thank you doing it today we're going to go through the float with a flow of the day will look like next year in kindergarten what supplies your child will need the curriculum for ELA math social studies and science play expectations and is Services some Lionel Services supports for students with disabilities and then we'll have time for some questions that we're going to go over some resources that we're going to send you guys so next week as Miss Cortez and they handed over to miss Court as one of our kindergarten teachers to give you a glimpse of what a day will look like for you kindergarten your minor feel really come together as a classroom community and will go through another monster days of the week will do so social emotional activities together and taking a look together what their daily schedule is going to look like so what special they might have that day and when they have Ela or math Etc so just a glimpse into our day we start with the morning meeting and Lan are the specials consist of art music gym and Library so depending on the day your child will have one of special then launch followed by recess and science and social studies science and social studies will alternate throughout the week so they won't have both of those in one day it all fell alternate as the week goes on so some days they'll have science and some days they'll have social studies Gladys Joy okay so if you got a suppliant needed for kindergarten but your child will be needing a child safety scissors three packs of sharpened number 2 pencils two boxes of 24-pack crayons and two primary notebooks and it's not no marble notebook so there's a drawing page and then the writing paint underneath it a pack of what erasers six glue sticks two boxes of tissues roll of paper towels one pack of baby wipes two packs of Clorox wipes on a hand soap and a hand sanitizer we also need a red blue yellow and green two pocket folder there's one of each and one plastic Builder and a small portable pencil sharpener so the kids can and a plastic supply box we also are requesting for two boxes of black dry erase markers and if you guys can if the parents label all them all the supplies with your child's name that would be greatly helpful and also on the first week of school there will be a letter sent down for the change of clothes so please look out for that on the first day of first week of school and also if it's students have borrowed or have an iPad or electric device please bring it to school and we'll work from there a good afternoon Ms Astra sorry got muted good afternoon on this last year so next year your children are going to learn a lot of wonderful things in math Ela science and social studies and math our curriculum that we use is called envision your children going to learn all about what math is why math is important how it relates to their own line and they're going to learn how to identify their numbers looking at a number and being able to tell what number that is a bill be able to they're going to learn how to count by one's to 120 count by tens to 100 they're going to learn how to write their number they will also learn how to add and subtract and the difference between when we a door when we subtract so also learn how numbers are related Francis you have the number 15 they're going to learn that the one is a group of ten and five is five extra so they're going to learn a lot of them wonderful things in math hi good afternoon my name is Carol and one of the kindergarten teachers are welcome looking forward to meeting all of your children I'm going to speak a little bit about Ela so the ELA curriculum here at psms194 YouTube uses is called core language core knowledge excuse make or knowledge the line to the kindergarten state standards the students will learn to print all 26 letters of the alphabet accurately in both are uppercase and lowercase forms they will learn the names of each layer and their corresponding sounds for example B book students will also learn how to read and spell CVC words for example map map so that would be consonant owl confident they will learn how to recognize and read high frequency words high frequency words cannot be sounded out because they have some sort of trick to it words like the was is his they will also learn and develop more phonological awareness skills for example they will learn to identify down Rhymes syllables and blend sounds together students will also learn and develop more comprehension skills will be exposed to a variety of read-alouds for the read-aloud students will develop a rich vocabulary and comprehension so for example when they read a book they'll be able to identify characters setting beginning middle end and looking forward to meeting all of them in September Miss Maharaj will speak about science hi everyone my name is Miss Molly and welcome looking forward to seeing all of the wonderful students coming in so I'm going to talk about the science science curriculum psms194 use this is called Elevate the students will learn about pushes impose meaning how things move states of matter examples solids liquids and gases and the environment including weather patterns seasons and life cycle of animals and plants in addition they will how to learn about different habitats around the world some examples included are rainforest ocean and Arthur and now I'm going to introduce Miss hassenfratz to talk about social studies Thank You by good afternoon welcome everybody we're really looking forward to hosting your children next year for kindergarten and what a wonderful year kindergarten always is so for social studies we work with the children on learning about community and wouldn't be correct in that we use is called passport so what makes up a community why are rules important why why are what is organized in a community the way they are so we'll also explore different cultures and holidays which is great fun that the children can learn about different holidays that are friends celebrate will also be look at Community workers as well as famous New York City landmarks will also get into maps and geography and most importantly in terms of New York City geography they will discover why the Bronx best New York City Borough so we have an awful lot of fun and we're really looking forward to hosting your children next year hi I miss the Foley I'm going to go over the school day expectations do students have to arrive to the shoes if you can work on trying to tie them over the summer with them if not velcro shoes would be helpful to us cuz it is hard to tie and a lot of kids shoes throughout the day and I for students who struggle with math and Ela had a group consists of six students and the lessons will be the same as what is taught in class that students will be pulled or three times per week now I registration I'm sure everyone sold out the home language survey that along with an interview helps determine whether your child will need to take the nysitell at the beginning of the year which is an English exam to see if you would need services within for English or not if it is if it is decided that you do based on you will be put into what category is either entering emerging transitioning or expanding and during the school year depending on which level your child did that you will be pulled out of the class if you are entering an emerging four times a week if you are transitioning or expanding and entering an emerging all get help with in the classroom as well four times a week during this process we communicate with you the entire time so you're going to know every step of the way whether your child will need English services or will not thank you and I'll pass it over to miss marcarelli and Miss Whitney hello good afternoon my name is Mark erelli I'm going to be talking about and ICT classroom my CT stands for integrated co-teaching so what that means is it is a class that is set up as a general education teacher as well as the special education teacher so we provide instructions to the class that has students with and without learning disabilities spell together both teachers deliver instruction to all the students and pulling in that range of teaching strategies so even though that your students say that they don't have a disability or place classroom they actually benefit from having two teachers in the classroom so they receive the extra help as well so it's usually always benefits for students without abilities on to be in the classroom as well now I'll turn it over to Miss Whitney and she is going to talk about the self-contained hi good afternoon everyone my name is Miss Whitney and I am a special education kindergarten teacher at psms194 so I'm just going to talk about self-contained and what that means so it's all contained classroom consists of a 12 to 1 to 1 ratio which means there are at maximum about 12 students in the classroom as well as one teacher and one paraprofessional there could be more paraprofessionals depending on the needs and requirements of each ticket so this setting allows for the teacher and for the paraprofessional to devote more time on each student because of the small class size and you will know if your child has this mandate by looking at their recommended special education services on their IP this class in our school is considered a bridge class because it is made up of students in kindergarten and in first grade so depending on how many students are in each grade there could be for kindergarten students and eight first grade or vice versa could be 6 and 6 depending on how many students are in old and are recommended for that specific classroom will determine how many are in each grade and I will pass it over to miss alakori to talk about the next side hi good afternoon I miss Alex and I'll be talking about how to get your child ready for kindergarten so today you learned the many skills that your children will be learning about in kindergarten and these are just some of the scale that you can help your child practice so they is a kindergarten ready to go you can help them practice counting to 20 you can have them identifying numbers to 10 stole them a number of them tell you what that number is it continues off the thing that has a set of five objects one-to-one correspondence what that means is basically you're showing them a number of objects has a three and every time they touch one the mouse says one that's 121 c one correspondent stats of objects and describing using more less equal or same and for ELA having them identify the letters and sounds of the alphabet will be extremely helpful how to hold the pencil whipping a pencil or marker or crayon identifying the front and back cover of a book holding it in the right direction because I'm outside down how to turn the pages and look for the text and follow right left right having them practice drawing realistic pictures not just sticks for the bodies Circle the face using two shapes to draw the body and also to practice helping them some form of their first name these are just some of the things that you can practice with them before they enter kindergarten so that they are very well prepared to continue learning what they need to learn in kindergarten thank you so much teachers so just so you guys know your parents know we're going to be emailing some resources for you to use over the summer to get your child's ready so miss alakori Wendover some things that you can do with your student your child over the summer so miss Flores is going to be emailing you a packet that you can use at home so if there's some activities there's some websites you can go on though and it's also going posted on our psms194 website that website www psms194. Calm so you can find those resources there as well but look for the email from his Flores will be sending that out for some activities for you to help your child over the summer before we go into the questions and opening the chat I just want to remind it's on you if you haven't submitted the paperwork please call Miss Lugoff Ford appointment to complete the registration process I'm going to put icing we will have five general education classes with two of those classes will be ict4 next year so I'll ask the question about uniforms you're you're either going to receive an email our parent coordinator you will also find it inside our psms194 website of where where to get the uniform okay so since we are finishing the 2021 school year towards the end of the school year is when we will start determining what class our kindergarteners will be going into a I will be receiving notification via email what class they will be going into so you are ready in September you know the school supply why is are we don't have those school supplies here in the building to be purchased they will be purchasing local school supply stores something like Office Depot or Staples what is the beginning of the school year you're going to be receiving an emergency contact sheet and that's where you're going to be selling out who is going to be picking up your child phone numbers for contacts so that's for the drop-off and pick-up names of parent or Guardian 100 English and also with respect to that question is Harris is there an early drop-off we have a breakfast program that begins at 7:15 in the morning and ends approximately around 7:45 we usually keep all of our babies are Elementary School students in the cafeteria are Middle School students then are they go outside their designated arrivals area of the front of the building and then at 8 or couple of minutes before 8:00 though they come in but our case to if they come in for breakfast they'll stay in the cafeteria and they will then get picked up to go to class so we do not have a plan for supplies being dropped off on the first day of school which is September 13th that's pretty much the day that when they're coming into the schoolyard the supplies are being brought in and we'll have I saw a lot of Staff members that will help bring those supplies into the classrooms just make sure that everything is labeled with your child's name and the class that you will find out by the end of the school fiscal year what classroom they will be in yes all in person and as the as the summer as we're going into the summer as you is you as you're listening to our mayor in our Chancellor almost at least once to twice a week there, so in about the start of the school year and what the CD guidelines will be right now to see the guidelines are what they are today and in July it's going to change August in my change again just keep an ear out for for our mayor and our pastor as they are planning for the because we're all in and you know it's also the support from the home no conversation cuz you're going to have with your five-year-old and how how you want them you know to it's it's different it's a different K year as it has been hit but not as in past years so we're all going to be working together and just making sure that our children because your children are Archer they're going to be safe the school year but we are planning to have an after school program we just it's a lot of logistics so we just have to start the school year first get all our children in and as soon as they're in then that after school program will begin soon as we can get it going school begins at 8 on the dot and ends at 2:20 then I do thank you September 13th is the first day of school it's a Monday and you could you could over the summer request evaluation out from the district okay and they would do it over the summer because our in-house School psychologists and support team are not working in the summer they could do an evaluation that at that way or you could wait until September and see evaluate the child in school at the beginning of the year for speech services we could also based on what the teacher sees and how the child does coming in decide if it's still necessary okay so that's it that's up to you if you wanted to do it over the summer hello ma'am I have a question yes because my son he did like it one line plastic in the future so he don't know about the classes like no friend so if he tries so hard because you are okay see what you're talkin about his glasses last night when he used to do like it one line class in the Pre-K so he's going to be crying for the kids is this the quest the ones who are who can remote learning things and even even for our students prior to the pentamic are kindergarten students you know some of them and we're very well I mean we're very compassionate with her babies when they're coming in and they do not want to leave of course I don't want to leave their parents or their family members and we get it but a lot of conversation with your son or daughter are over the summer and this is what I did I don't know how many years ago with my daughter she's 24 but I used to walk around the school and say this is where you going this is great I'm so excited for you you're going to meet friends and and just get them you know I'll make them feel positive about it right and then if they do cry I think we we feel the pain more because where it where the parents we feel it more deeply but I assure you they will be in good hands they will cry maybe another 5 to 10 more and when they get into the classroom and he see all the other children it dies down it goes away we usually have and I'm not going to lie to you some extreme cases where it does take us a little longer than the normal time get our students adjusted to school life but just trust us and just believe I just and just give give you no tell your your son or daughter that this is a great place and they're going to be learning to make great friends you know where an extension of the family okay you know and also the bathroom he even run okay so this is this time over the summer just just keep encouraging him to and you don't celebrate it and make dinner and make it positive reinforcement for for your your son or daughter and I don't want you worrying all of our kindergarten rooms have their specific bad because there's not a lot of traveling to get to the bathroom every one of our kindergarten classroom have a bathroom you know adjacent to the other classrooms I know these worries are these are questions for all of us but I assure you that just make sure over the summer their bathroom ready and they know how to do the basic things like pulling up their pants and pulling the zipper up and the button in their pants because that's hard is going to be very important we are all of June July and August have 90 days to get him ready for transferring that worry you just saved great job good job every time they do it well I know you got 90 days make sure he knows how to eat by himself all the other kids are doing it by and say he will adopt he will look up last time in spinach Lansing home he looks like the breakfast you can it's too long of a day for him not to eat he will still be fine we'll be fine. Are we going to give him some food from home like a I don't like this. My son name is bull on Sam Houston like without halal food okay no problem because I have no unfortunately we cannot warm up the food so if there's any food that you're going to be sending then it you know day we should be able to eat it either room temperature if you put it in a lunch bag might be a cold lunch but unfortunately don't have the time to do that for a babies hi hi I have a I have a phone that I got on my email but I did not do that how long I have time to do that which form I go to email I think I got the email Jasmine did you sleep recently send an email show me the Foamposites from school 94 and I need to fill it out but I do flugo if it's for a registration form, put it in the chat and her phone number and extension and you can call her and she can help you with the form if it's for finishing your registration chimis macarelli that's a good idea like having the food warm in a thermos and then sending it if it needs to be warm send me a message was there any after school program available for 3 there will be an after school program we've had this program in years past and they're coming back to us in Minnesota call Ultimate enrichment but it is a pain after school program that is the parents pay for it and they'll be more information coming in the summer months thank you you're welcome brakes how many breaks are there that well they're like how do I explain brakes maybe one of my kindergarten teachers could talk about how the day goes where is a you know we know that our children some just need a little break who would like to take a stab at that one I could tell you that we do do enough activities stretching activities in between if we seal the children are a little antsy and thirsty we do have a game called GoNoodle we do try to do it as many times in the day if we feel it's needed and then he continued as much as you can with the work thank you mister Dees now this is not last time that were well this is our first and only orientation we will be sending this to everyone once again whether you're here or far our kindergarten parents that could not make it today in addition to that as the months go on my parent coordinator Miss Flores will continue to send more information you have our school number if you have very specific question regarding your child and just keep looking at our psms194 website for more information so I didn't want to thank you for being here and I'm just getting to 195 officially I don't know what the after-school fee will be we will find out as soon as I know that will be also in our website thank you very much for sharing your time with us and thank you a head of time for entrusting your children to us at 194 it's an amazing school and not because work here we are I have an amazing staff there I know it before the pandemic and they are they've gone above and beyond the Call of Duty during the pandemic and I'll let you know how things are settling down and we're coming back into a Traditional School setting I want you to feel safe and and just know that you're you know it's an extension to their home and we will treat them as they are ours that's what we do here at 194 so have a wonderful afternoon again if you have a website and and just make sure that you are always informed about what's happening at 194 have a great afternoon
